Kate Winslet saddened by divorce

October 24, 2011

Actress Kate Winslet has spoken candidly to Harper’s Baazar about the painful divorce from her second husband, film director Sam Mendes.

Hailed as one of the UK’s most talented actresses, Kate Winslet was born into a theatrical family in 1975 and first appeared on television in an advertisement for Sugar Puffs at the age of 12.

Cast in a co-starring role in the 1991 science fiction serial Dark Season on BBC children’s television, Kate Winslet captured the public imagination in 1997 with her portrayal of a survivor of the Titanic, playing alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the highest-grossing film ever made.

Playing a wide range of characters on television and the big screen, Kate Winslet has received enormous acclaim and a clutch of Golden Globes, BAFTAs and Academy Awards.

Her personal life has not always mirrored her professional success, with her first marriage in 1998 to director Jim Threapleton ending in divorce a short three years later when daughter Mia, born in 2000, was only one year old.

In 2003, Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes were married in Anguilla and their son Joe was born later that year, although by March 2010 the marriage had foundered and the couple had parted.

As an actress playing the part of the unhappy wife in Revolutionary Road and the estranged eponymous heroine of Mildred Pierce Ms.Winslet is no stranger to marital strife, but expressed regret in the interview with Harper’s Bazaar that both her marriages have failed, expressing concern over the trauma suffered by her children as a result.
