Pope to give his view on divorce to Charles and Camilla

April 22, 2009

Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, are set to meet Pope Benedict XVI next week when they visit Rome, where the couple are expected to be reminded of the Catholic church’s views on divorce.

According to reports, the Prince of Wales will be presented with a copy of a document that was first produced in 1530 with regards to Henry VIII’s divorce from Catherine of Aragon. The document is important to the Catholic church and has been stored within the archives at the Vatican for hundreds of years.

The Pope expects to make a gift of the document to the Prince of Wales as a way of mending relationships between the Church of England and the Vatican.

Prince Charles has become the first top level of royalty to marry a divorcée, since the saga of Edward and Mrs Simpson.
